Why Your Hairstyle Might Not Be Working For You

Getting a great haircut means more than walking out of the salon looking and feeling great. It also means getting a cut that you can style on your own. However, one of the most frequent comments that we hear from clients is, “I can’t make my hair look the way you do.” The frustration is real.

There are a few reasons that you might not be getting the same results that your stylist gets in the salon. Try a few of these suggestions and see if it helps you achieve salon quality results at home.

You Are Not Using the Optimal Products

One of the reasons that stylists get professional results is that we use professional products, of course, and we know why we choose certain products to achieve certain looks. Yes, there are drugstore products that get excellent results. Stylists may even have a “guilty pleasure” or two that we can pick up at the drugstore or the grocery store. However, there is a HUGE quality difference between professional and drugstore hair products. An inexpensive end product is the result of cheaper ingredients. For certain hair types, product choice (quality ingredients) can make all the difference.

At Sanke Salon, our stylists are happy to explain what products they are using and why during your service. We will also give you the option to purchase products through us. Please don’t think our product explanations are just a means to sell, we truly want you to understand the “why” and be able to make an informed decision, whether or not you purchase products from us.

We will discuss things such as lifestyle, frequency of washing, sun exposure, do you have a pool, how often you heat style, etc. We will analyze your hair density, texture and amount of curl or lack thereof. All of these factors influence our product selection and recommendations for you.

Our professional stylists will help guide you to the right products for your hair and lifestyle.

You Are Using Products Incorrectly

Getting the right products is the first step. Using them correctly is just as important. You may not realize it, but all of these factors can impact how products work:

  • How much you use
  • How you apply the product
  • When you apply the product
  • Other products you are using
  • The weather

You Are Not Using the Optimal Styling Tools

OR You Are Using Them Incorrectly

At the salon, we use professional quality styling tools. What does that mean? Well, you may think it means we just paid more for the same tools you have at home. Professional quality tools reduce heat damage while still getting rapid results.

We use the tools we need to create specific styles.

  • Blow dryer
  • Straightening iron
  • Curling iron
  • Round/Square Brush

With those tools, a stylist can create almost any hairstyle. You may notice that your stylist always uses a diffuser when they blow-dry your hair, or chooses a different barrel size than you do when they curl, or uses a square brush instead of the round one you use. Ask questions about the process, which tools the stylist uses, and why they are using them. They will be happy to explain it to you.

Your Haircut and Your Styling Routine Don’t Match

When you think about the right haircut, you might think about things like your face shape. What looks fabulous on YOU? However, getting the right haircut for YOU depends more on your lifestyle and daily routine than anything else. It means matching you with a haircut and style that work for your life.

What is your daily routine? How much time do you commit to styling? If the hairstyle you want is incompatible with your lifestyle, you will be fighting with it daily as you try to style your hair. Let us help you find a haircut that not only compliments you, but one that you can style at home.

You’ve Never Been Good at Styling Your Own Hair

The main reason that your hair looks its best when professionally styled is that we are professionals. Styling hair is our job, and we love to do it.

We don’t want you to only love your style when WE do it, though. We consider it part of our job to teach you how to recreate the same style at home. If you have any questions during the styling process, ask us! We are happy to slow down, show you how to master techniques and explain what we are doing. You should feel confident you can recreate a look when you leave our salon with your new haircut and style.

Join Our Styling Class

Because so many of our clients have styling questions, we are planning a Styling Class. Clients will get one-on-one styling lessons with their stylist and be taken step-by-step through styling their specific hairstyle. A product/styling tool package will be customised just for them and available for purchase at great price the evening of the class. We will have wine and hors d’oeuvres and it will be a fun evening!

Our Styling Class will be a perfect choice for you whether or not you have mastered a signature look. Many of us do great at recreating a signature “everyday” style, but struggle to change it up. Our class is a great place to learn about new techniques. In class, you can explore approaches to curling or straightening your hair or learn some easy updos. Because the classes will give you one-on-one time with your stylist, you get to decide what you will learn!

Stay tuned for more details!
